The feline charm of agritourism: National Cat Day

February the 17st, 2025| Today is the National Cat Day, to honour and celebrate these beloved pets that are part of many people’s lives. This special day highlights the benefits that cats bring to people’s life, such as their role as loving companions, their ability to reduce stress and their calming effect. Although every day is a good day to love your cats, this day is dedicated to them in a very special way!

Why February the 17th

February, in some popular proverbs, was called the month “of cats and witches”, while the number 17 is associated with bad luck and misfortune, a reputation once reserved for cats. Even the zodiac sign, Aquarius, is combined with the main characteristics of these felines: free spirit and non-conformism. In addition, the number 17 written in Roman numerals is XVII, which anagrammed is VIXI, meaning “I have lived” in Latin. This leads back to the idea that the cat has lived at least seven lives.

Cats at Poggiopiano

At Poggiopiano, each cat has its own role, just like people who work with us! The time has come to introduce them to you one by one:

  • Mia, lively and curious. She loves to do the honours, accompanying guests around the olive grove and vineyard during guided tous (if she had the gift of speaking, she would make an exceptional guide!).

  • Diana, like any self-respecting landlady, she welcomes all guests at our Agriturismo. She always hopes that her attentions will be rewarded with the same amount of cuddles (or perhaps a slice of salami…). She loves to hunt and the vineyard is her favourite battleground!

  • Tino, found only a few weeks old as a refugee among our vineyards, he was welcomed at Poggiopiano. He immediately felt at home, just as our Guests do. Since then, he has been guarding every nook and cranny, which is why he is never seen! Alone at home, he is extremely tender and loves to sleep on the PC keyboard at the office.

  • Bibo, also known as the ‘howler cat’, he doesn’t really enjoy the company of people but never misses an opportunity to be heard and have his say! Who knows what he has so important and urgent to say every day?
The only time to photograph him is when he is asleep at home, in the armchair or ‘comfortably’ on the drawers in the office!

Why celebrate National Cat Day in a B&B immersed in the countryside?

Cats can play a fundamental role, both for the well-being of the environment and for the experience of visitors, as they naturally control parasites and are lovable companions for visitors, providing emotional wellbeing and relaxation, other then makink the ambience more authentic, recalling the tradition and “simplicity” of the place.

Our four beloved cats mark the stay of our Guests, each in their own way: how about coming to visit them? They are waiting for you, and so are we!! Take a look HERE.
